the most fun thing about this site is that no matter what you post or who you follow you’re always like 2 degrees of separation from someone who hates your guts

Bold of you to assume some people like me in the first place

Did everyone just…. forget how to create, all of a sudden? Disney pumping out the fourth remake in a row? Movies are like 70% sequels? Stories in games being just bad if they exist at all? Haven’t had a book get hyped in like half a decade? Are we okay? What’s going on?

Witches, we need to talk.

This article brings up a lot of great points about what claiming the title of witch means in today’s political climate. Yes, even despite its “woman”-fixation. (Men and enbies are witches, too.)

I love its accuracy over the commodification of witchcraft in mainstream feminism. The majority of modern witches believe you can buy enlightenment and empowerment. Honestly, this is probably 95% of the root of all my annoyance with aesthetic witchcraft posts. Disavowal of the “dark” aspects highlights ignorance about witchcraft’s history. Witches ignore that history at their own peril.

But I like the new shows and things. They’re fun. We’ve taken a turn in mainstream media towards hardcore occultism and dark aesthetics. Such movies and shows finally represent the opposite side of the coin from “Love and Light” onscreen. A lot of us recognize that these pieces aren’t serious. No one expects these rites and rituals to work. Well…except for those ignorant about what witchcraft really is. (How long until we hear about a botched murder attempt, like we did for Slender Man?)

But combined ignorance among witches and the mainstream could have dangerous consequences. This political climate is seeing a tremendous rise in attacks against minorities like women, LGBTQ+, and people of color. You ignore these at your own peril. This is what a witch hunt is - injuring those perceived as “dangerous” even though they are the minority. Claiming witchcraft as an identity for rebellion and self-care is fine - if you know your history. Do you accept that the mainstream believes something different than you do about what you do? Do you know what those differences are? Are you aware of the differences practiced among witches? Are you willing to defend your “weirder” or “darker” siblings from the Moral Majority should it come to that?

Witchcraft has a long history - and one connected with the Devil, whether in actuality or by perception. Pretending that revisionist history is going to save us all is foolhardy. If you are going to claim the title without suffering slings or arrows, find a new one.

white people are racist by default (in the united states as well as other countries). are you white? congrats, you’re racist, and here’s the explanation:

you grew up in a racist society -> you were socialized to be racist thanks to racism being a dominant ideology -> you benefit from racism -> you’re racist no matter how much u think you’re not.

unlearning it is going to be a constant battle and u will never unlearn it fully. accept this. it is ingrained in you as a result of your upbringing and the media you’ve consumed. the sooner you come to terms with your own racism, the sooner u can better yourself. recognize the problem in yourself instead of setting yourself apart from those “other” white people.

I fux heavy with the White people who keep putting this post on my dash

This applies to all social structures by the way.

You’re a man? You grew up benefitting from sexism.
You’re straight? You grew up with homophobic ideals.
You’re cis? You grew up with transphobic ideals.
You’re able bodied? You grew up with ableist tendencies.

The process of unlearning all of the ideology you were surrounded by is what activism is about. Do it.
